4 tasks you’ll be required to carry out as a defence mechanic

One of the best things about working as a defence mechanic with M&E Global is that you will have on-the-job training, including a week of initial training when you begin your contract to ensure you are ready to get started. Once you’ve completed this initial training, you’ll be set to carry out the following tasks:

1. Identify problems

As a defence mechanic, you will be responsible for keeping vehicles running and/or aircraft flying. As such, you will need to be able to examine and inspect the equipment brought into the workshop, obtain key information concerning the issues and diagnose and identify problems. You may also need to run diagnostic tests and inspect various systems to understand what is happening and why.

2. Recommend solutions

Once you’ve determined the problem, your role as a defence mechanic will then see you act as a problem solver and identify the best solutions. This will include choosing solutions to ensure optimum performance and safety as quickly as possible.

3. Repair and replace

Once you’ve chosen a solution, you will then use your expert knowledge to repair the parts that are not operating as required and return them to working order. Alternatively, if the parts cannot be repaired, you will need to replace them with new ones.

4. Routine maintenance

As well as identifying and solving problems, working as a mechanic will also see you undertake routine maintenance, services, and checks. This could include anything from changing engine oil to testing brakes and checking computer systems to ensure that safety standards are met at all times.
